American’s interest in nutrition and diet is at an all time high, doubling from seven percent in 2005 to 16 percent just two years later. According to the 2007 International Food and Information Council’s Consumer Attitude Survey, American’s top health concerns are heart disease (53 percent), weight (33 percent), cancer (24 percent) and diabetes (17 percent).

Announcing: The Third Annual LISN Awards-Nominations Due December 3, 2007!

[SR Name] announces the 3rd Annual Leadership in School Nutrition (LISN) Award, sponsored by National Dairy Council® and Dairy Field Magazine. The award recognizes and encourages positive partnerships between dairy processors and schools to provide students with better nutrition through milk programming innovations, using kid-appealing plastic packaging. These improvements lead to increased milk consumption and meal participation.



The Winning Partnership: First Prize $5,000

Nominate a School District or Dairy Processor

Nominations will be accepted through December 3, 2007 at www.LISN-Awards.org. Districts may nominate their processor or processors may nominate their own school district partnerships. The winners will be announced during School Nutrition Association’s Child Nutrition and Industry Conference, January 13-15, 2008, in Monterey, Calif.



National Dairy Animal Well-Being Initiative effort underway

A producer led coalition representing every facet of the dairy industry announces an effort to protect consumer trust and confidence in the dairy industry's commitment to animal well-being on the dairy farm. The coalition has introduced the first draft of proposed principals and guidelines intended to provide a uniform umbrella of assurances that the industry is meeting its ethical obligations for dairy animal well-being. Frankton, Indiana Immigrant Dairy Farmer Grasps American Dream

Friends and family of Tejo Willemsen, a Central Indiana diary farmer, experienced a heart-wrenching moment as he announced an expansion of his farm in Frankton, while paying tribute to the father and daughter he lost just six years earlier. "This is a big day for me," said Willemsen, an immigrant from The Netherlands with his wife.
